The other day a big box arrived at our door. The dog barked, Connor went wild with excitement, and I anxiously watched the monitor to see if the commotion would wake Ethan up. (It didn’t. Love that kid.) Connor always wants to open packages right away (who doesn’t?) but especially this one, because he was convinced it was full of LEGO. A gigantic box full of LEGO. And he was not dissuaded by the fact that it didn’t rattle when we shook it.
I knew it wasn’t LEGO, but I was actually more excited about what was inside. It was full of clothes. And not for me.
One of the downsides of having another boy is that I don’t feel justified in buying new baby clothes. (This is also the downside to being practical and frugal and keeping all of Connor’s clothes for four years.) I did buy a few new things for Ethan and, to be fair, I have totally enjoyed opening up the boxes of stuff Connor wore and reminiscing about all those cute sleepers and tiny onesies.

Whales on the bum? So cute!
This particular box of clothes was from Sears and it was part of the ambassador program and The Baby’s Room launch of Carter’s and OshKosh, which are two brands I happen to love. And it was perfectly timed, too, because Connor has just reached the stage where he wears out his pants before he outgrows them. He has ripped holes right through the knees of three – THREE! – pairs of pants in the last couple of weeks. And Ethan did need some stuff, because he’s in a different season (not to mention different climate) than when Connor was this age. So now he has some very cute and very cozy pants and some adorable hoodies. I’d have taken a picture to show you but he barfed on both sweatshirts as soon as I put them on him. He’s helpful like that.
So despite the fact that the box did not contain LEGO, Connor was pretty happy. It was probably the fleecy pyjamas and the footed sleeper in his size, which has moose on it. I know, right? So cute.

Yes. I definitely would buy new clothes for my second. They are just so cute and so hard to resist!
I buy very little for my second daughter. Having two girls 99% of the clothes gets reused. Some stuff is off season though, so I’ve had to supplement a bit. And I get her a new outfit now and again for special occasions.
Yes, I do! I try to get enough for them at christmas time to do the year. Summer clothing i usually buy second hand because they grow so fast it only does them a few months.
I try not to buy too much for our daughter because I find she just grows out of it too quickly. I bought a bunch of things are Christmas and there are several outfits she still hasn’t worn. That said, we’re getting close to the 6-9 month phase and we have very few outfits ready for then. Time to go shopping!
Yes, I bought new clothes for my 2nd one because my bigger one is a girl and the little one is a boy.
I would have to, my first has been a tornado, she’s purposely dug her toes through sleepers which still had loads of room, just so she could point and wiggle the sleeper escapee at me in the morning.
Awww those photos of the clothing are so cute! My daughter just had her second son,(5 years between them) and she didn’t save anything from the oldest. So she needs all new clothing for Lucas, our youngest grandson.
I love Carter’s! I’m guilty of the same, not really buying a lot of new clothes for the second because he has so many hand me downs.
Don’t get me wrong I love hand me downs but I also thing the next kids new outfits too!
I love Carter’s as well and am excited to see Sears will be carrying their line! Living 5hrs from the closet Carter’s is terrible! I have a boy and a girl, and a shopping problem
I’ll probably buy some but will definitely use a lot of handmedowns!
I’ve set aside a bunch of my favourite outfits for kid #2, but I’ll buy him or her some stuff as well- particularly if I end up having a girl next time around, as most of my handmedowns are very manly!
My 2nd daughter got alot of my oldest daughters baby clothes, but there is 5 year gap between them. So I only saved baby clothes. Now I have to buy her new clothes
thanks
Love Carters!!! They have great prices and always have amazing clothes!
I am very similar to Angela – two daughters, 4 1/2 years between them, and the second one has inherited LOTS of clothes! And she’s gotten some new ones as gifts, so I really don’t want to buy much more, seeing as how she’ll outgrow them so fast. But they were born in different seasons, so it may be an issue once summer is here!
Not a whole lot, but the 2nd did get some new stuff.
I have 2 girls spaced 2.5 years apart, so I don’t buy much. I did have to buy a few basics as my oldest was born in winter and my youngest in summer.
I will buy a few things for our new daughter (less than 2 weeks old!) but since they are both girls and born in similar seasons I won’t need to buy much. It is nice to have a few new things though!
Yes i did buy new clothes for my second child.
Love the quality and the cuteness. Depending on the sex and season, I would try to limit my purchases. But gifts are always welcome
Yes I bought new clothes for my second – but that was because we had a different gender. If they were the same gender I likely wouldn’t have bought much new.
Yes I did buy her new stuff….. My first was a boy!
I didn’t really buy much until my second boy was about 2.5 yrs. That’s about the age his older brother was when he started blowing through clothes and so there really wasn’t anything left in that size for him!
I sometimes buy clothes for my 2nd , my boys are close in age and size so my oldest grows out of his clothes and passes it down to his brother!!!
I would try to reuse a lot of clothes – there doesn’t seem to be much wear on many of the clothes so far. When you buy Carters or Osh Kosh they hold up so well. I would of course buy some new outfits – I wouldn’t want them to look the same in all the pictures!
My second son got a good mix of new clothes and hand me downs.
I only had 1 son,but yes,I would buy new clothes for my 2nd ,,but would definately use hand me downs as well!!
