A Winter Rant

This is a rant. Just so you’re warned.

I love winter. 90% of the time, anyway. But lately winter is just messy.

We had some really cold weather and a ton of snow in December (more in that one month than in an average January, February, and March combined, apparently). And then it got warm. And then it froze again. And then it got warm and froze again and repeat.

And now the sidewalks look like this:

I love winter, but this I do not love. It makes it very hard to walk the dog without breaking one’s neck.

And this makes it very hard to get into one’s driveway without 4-wheel drive:

And this is what our street looks like at the moment:

I don’t know what this is (Snowpocalypse? Icemageddon?) but it’s not the winter I love.

Anyone have a dump truck full of ice melt?

  1. Agreed!! I am DONE with this winter.

  2. Blimey, that’s not fun! :-( *Sending virtual salt*

PS “Icemageddon” gave me my first laugh of the day <3

  3. That is a lot of snow and ice. We too have had the cold and warm and cold and repeat. It seems like a stop and start winter which is somehow harder than just plain old winter – so unpredictable!

  4. Ugh, that does NOT look like fun. :(

  5. I feel your pain! That’s exactly how the winter has been in Merritt, just with less snow. I have not experienced that many freeze/thaw cycles since we moved here and it sucks. Because Germans are not nearly as good as Canadians with walking on ice, with a puppy…

  6. Ugh. I hear you. I have liked winter less and less the older I’ve gotten. Now it means shoveling and getting to work (and daycare) and snow tires and slippery roads. And as a runner, it means slippery sidewalks and freezing cold air.

    You’re justified in my rant.

  7. Our yard looks like that too and the temperatures of -39 are making it hard to be comfortable at home or work. Brrr.

  8. Holy cow. I would be utterly miserable and cranky ALL THE TIME. I don’t know what to say, except…I’ll pray for a salt shower?

  9. Yeah, the weather this year has been pretty crazy. You’re allowed to rant!

  10. Yeah lets not forget about the Ice Storm :(

  11. I feel your pain and if I was to rant about winter it would sound about the same. It was 50 here on Monday and now it’s in the single digits, the snow from Tuesday is never going to melt . And no one in South Jersey knows how to drive on snow or ice! Ok that was my rant.

  12. Oh man, that looks miserable. I’ve learned to love winter when we can get outside and play. But this subzero wind chill, stay inside or your face will freeze off weather we’ve been having in my neck of the woods is pretty yucky.

  13. Yep. Not a fan of this winter. I hate it when there’s no place else to deposit the snow. Which is currently the issue here, too.
